PHOTO ESSAY MAKEOVERS - A Tribute to Audrey Hepburn

A Tribute to Audrey Hepburn - Photo Gallery

Audrey Hepburn was born May 4, 1929 in Ixelles, Belgium.  Her father was a wealthy banker and her mother, a Dutch baroness.  Audrey went to ballet school in London and later began a modeling career.   She got bit parts in European films and went to the United States to make her fortune in films.  Roman Holiday (1953) was her first American film and landed her an Academy Award for best actress.  Other great films were Sabrina (1954), Funny Face (1957), The Nun’s Story (1959), Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), Charade (1963), and one of her most popular, My Fair Lady (1964).

She became an ambassador to the United Nations (Unicef), helping children in Latin America and Africa.

Audrey died on Jan 20, 1993 in Switzerland of colon cancer.

"I never thought I’d land in pictures with a face like mine."

"Success is like reaching an important birthday and finding you are exactly the same."

"My look is attainable.  Women can look like Audrey Hepburn by flipping out their hair, buying large sunglasses, and little sleeveless dresses."

I was recently involved in a model shoot with a San Rafael photographer named Trevor Henley. We had 5 models that needed shots for their portfolios. When one of the models named Lauren walked in, I was amazed at how much she resembled Audrey Hepburn. Not only did she have the same physique and face, she also had that sweet girl-like innocence that Audrey portrayed.

I suggested that for one of the looks we do a chignon reminiscent of the film Breakfast at Tiffany's. Someone at the shoot had a large pair of sunglasses that completed the look. When we were finished I asked Lauren if she wanted me to remove the chignon. She replied with, "Oh no! I want to go home and show my mom!" Sounds like something Audrey would have said.
